Marvin D. Hovey, 74, of 26 Cottage Ave., passed away Wednesday (November 10, 2010) at his home.
Born in Canisteo, January 30, 1936, the son of Lyman and Lena VanSkiver Hovey, he had resided in the Hornell-Canisteo area all his life. Marvin worked as a painter for Hud Coogan Construction for many years and enjoyed fishing, reading, western movies and most of all his family. His flag will be presented to Christopher Berry whose father, Sgt. Nekel B. Allen was killed in Afghanistan on Sept. 12, 2009.
He was predeceased by one son, Marvin Hovey Jr, one brother, Elmer Hovey, one sister, Jean Houghtaling as well as one grandchild.
He is survived by his wife Faith Mesler Hovey whom he married on May 4, 1985, one son, Lyman Hovey of Dansville, one step-daughter, Missy Slaght of Hornell, three brothers, Austin Hovey of NJ, Charlie Hovey of Perry and Fay Hovey of Fl, favorite nephew, Steve Houghtaling of Hornell two step sons and three step-daughters, twelve grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, special friends, Charles (Hope) W. Phillips of Hornell and Glenn Travis of Hornell.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday November 13, 2010 from 11AM until 12PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. A military service will be held following calling at 12PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery.
Friends may make memorial contributions to the Hornell Area Humane Society.
