Obituary

Martha A. Baker 68, a resident of North Church Street in Canaseraga, passed away Monday October 12, 2026, at the Vincent House in Wayland surrounded by her loving family.

Martha A. Baker, 68, was born on March 3rd, 1958 in San Diego, California, the daughter of Renee "Ed" and Gloria Huerta McNeill. She was from the Mexican and Inca People. Throughout her childhood, she enjoyed life with her family, including her brothers; Enrique "Glenn", Jaime "James", Alex and Guillermo McNeill who called her "Martucha", because of her round face. Her favorite song since she was a little girl was "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Some of her other favorite singers were Ricio Durcal, Juan Gabriel, and Julio Iglesias. Martha was bilingual and enjoyed conversations with those who spoke Spanish. As Martha was working at the La Jolla Cove Hotel in California as the head of the house cleaning, she met the love of her life, Stephen Baker, who was the Maintenance Supervisor at the same hotel. Together they moved back to Canaseraga, NY to build a life together.

Martha and Stephen Baker shared 47 years together, and 42 years of marriage together, creating beautiful memories. She was not only a devoted wife, but a proud mother of her two sons, Stephen G. (Courtney) of Canaseraga and Daniel F. (Kaitlyn) Baker of Painted Post. Family meant the world to Martha, she was incredibly proud of both of her children and the people they have grown to become. Martha was also a devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren, Cyrus Baker, and Ariel Baker. Martha loved spending time with her grandchildren, from playing outside, cheering on the sideline, to making their favorite dishes. She loved keeping busy with her flowers, plants, baking and making Mexican food. Her favorite flower was the Gardenia and her favorite food was Tamales.

The world will be a little quieter without Martha's warm presence, and there will forever be an empty place in the hearts of those who loved her. But what a blessing it was to know her, to laugh with her, and to call her ours.

Martha worked hard, loved deeply, laughed often, and lived a life that mattered. And while 68 years was not enough, the love she gave and the memories she made will last a lifetime. She was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a grandmother, and a friend. And above all, she was truly the strongest, most beautiful and kind person who could always make you smile. Like a rainbow, pushing the clouds away after the storm.

She was predeceased by her father Renee "Ed" McNeill, and brothers Enrique "Glenn" McNeill and Jaime "James" McNeill.

Surviving is her Mother, Gloria Huerta McNeil of California, her husband Stephen Baker of Canaseraga, her two sons Stephen G. (Courtney) Baker of Canaseraga and Daniel F. (Kaitlyn) Baker of Painted Post, her brothers Alex and Guillermo McNeill both of California. As well as her grandchildren, Cyrus Baker and Ariel Baker.

Family and friends are invited to join Martha's Celebration Of Life at the Canaseraga American Legion Post on Sunday November 8th, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 6:00PM. Donations can be made to the Vincent House to continue to provide comfort care through Hospice.
