Marjorie Irene Griffin Jewell, 87, of 7603 Airport Rd., passed away Sunday (June 11, 2017) at home surrounded by family.
Born in Bishopville, NY, July 27, 1929, a daughter of Carl Joel and Agnes Pryor Griffin, she had resided in the Hornell area her whole life. Marjorie graduated Arkport Central School at age 16, she then attended a Commercial School in Hornell and started working for the New York State Department of Transportation in the Real Estate office at age 17. She was a member of the Bishopville Methodist Church. Marjorie loved to quilt and belonged to a Quilt Guild, she enjoyed knitting, making crafts, painting and trying to make things that she saw in magazines. She loved to travel across the United States to see family members, She was a devoted wife and an excellent mom, grandma and aunt. You could always tell that Marjorie was thinking of you by the numerous cards and letters she sent.
She was predeceased by her parents, a sister; Alice Perry, brother; Charles Griffin, her first husband; John Hagadorn as well as her second husband; Donald Jewell.
She is survived by her son; Nelson (Shelley) Jewell of Livonia, daughter; Dona Joi (John Kralles) Freeman of Rochester, 6 grandchildren; Michael (Danielle) Jewell, Alyssa Jewell, Samantha Jewell, Jewell Freeman, Tori Bloomquist and Samuel Bloomquist, 2 brothers; Franklin (Corrinne Miller) Griffin of Fremont and Roger (Gloria) Griffin of Bishopville, a sister-in-law; Nancy Griffin of Almond as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present from 2-4PM and 6-8PM Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell and again on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 1-2PM where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 2:00 PM, Rev. Pam Carey officiating. Burial will follow in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.
