Marilyn A. Simms, 76, of Cunningham Creek Rd., passed Tuesday (September 20, 2011) in Friendship.



Born in North Hornell, February 18, 1935, the daughter of Leander Guy and Adah Mildred (Griswold) Pickard, she had resided in the Hornell area all of her life. Marilyn worked as a paid volunteer for Americorps as well as the Catholic Charities. She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Hornell and served as Food Coordinator of the Food Pantry as well as a Sunday School Teacher. Marilyn retired as a stenographer from Alfred State College and served on missions trips to Guyana. One of Marilyn's favorite pastimes was taking bus tours with her friends.



She was predeceased by her husband Wendell Simms as well as her sister, Marian Pickard both in 1997.



She is survived by one son, Jeffrey (Stacy) Simms of Canisteo, three daughters, Dawn (Bob) Burnett of Friendship, Wendy (Paul) Hoffman of Vestal and Lori (Bob) Nealy of Clermont Fl, one brother, Leander (Welma) Pickard of Rio Rancho NM, ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4Pm until 6Pm on Friday (September 23, 2011), at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11Am with Pastor Tim Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
