Marie E. Rigby, 84, of 14 Main Street, passed away peacefully Sunday (April 3, 2016) at McAuley Manor.



Born in Alfred Station, January 9, 1932, the daughter of Gifford L. and M. Frances Cook, she was a lifelong area resident, attending the Goose Pasture Grammar School in Alfred Station, and then graduating from Alfred-Almond School. She had worked for Jacox Grocery in Alfred, the Alfred Almond School District as a Cafeteria Aide, and also with her husband for Rigby's Auction Service, and Rigby's Santa Service. Marie was a member of the Almond & Andover Senior Citizens, Almond Home Bureau, Good Sam's & Pal's Camping Groups, and the Eastern Star of Alfred and Almond. She enjoyed crafts, quilting, square dancing, antiques, yard sales, decorating inside and out for all the holidays, camping and traveling in her motorhome , and caning chairs. Marie was also a huge Elvis fan, and loved all animals especially cats and dogs.



She was predeceased by her husband Carl B. Rigby in 1995, whom she married on May 31, 1952, her daughter Deborah A. Rigby Raish in 1997, her parents, a sister in law Marjorie B. Cook, a nephew Lyle E. Cook, and special friend Paul W. Ordiway.



She is survived by her 2 brothers Walter M. Cook (Diana Peck) of Almond, Donald K. (Deanna) Cook of North Hornell, nephew Daniel (Ann) Cook, nieces Diane Cook, and Danielle L. (Jesse Ozog) Cook, many nieces and nephews on her husband's side of the family, and several great nieces and nephews.



The family will be present 1-3pm Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, with the Rev. Steve Dygert officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Alfred Station.
