Lyle W. Palmiter, 88, of State Rt. 244, passed away Friday (February 1, 2013) at St. James Hospital.



Born in Hornell, September 7, 1924, the son of Irving V. and Margurite (Lewis) Palmiter, he had resided in the Alfred Station area all his life. Lyle had been employed at the Alfred Station United States Post Office briefly serving as Postmaster before becoming a Rural Mail Carrier. He was a member of the Union University Church in Alfred. He owned and operated the Canacadea Hatchery for many years until its closing. Lyle also was the owner and operator of the Canacadea Sled Shop for several years as well as the Palmiter's Pumpkin Patch. He was a member of the Baker's Bridge Historical Association as well as a member of the Alfred Lodge #944 F&AM until its merging and becoming the Alfred-Almond University Lodge # 230 F&AM.



In addition to his parents, Lyle was predeceased by his two brothers; Randall and Keith Palmiter.



He is survived by his wife; Thelma (Burdick) Palmiter of Alfred Station, whom he married in 1946, One son; Terry (Lyn Muxworthy) Palmiter of Alfred Station, one daughter; Pamela (Charles R.) Thomas of Independence MO, two grandchildren; Seth and Clare Thomas, both of MO.

The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2013) from 3Pm until 5Pm, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 5Pm at the funeral home, Rev. Laurie DeMott officiating. Burial will be in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
