Lyle "Pete" Dixon, 71, of 4544 County Route 21, passed away Thursday (January 21, 2010) at his home.



Born in Hornell, July 27, 1938, the son of Robert and Marion Chaffee Dixon, he had resided in the Town of Canisteo for the last 49 years. Pete attended Greenwood Central School and served his country as a member of the United States Navy for 3 years. He was employed at Dresser-Rand in Painted Post for 35 years prior to his retirement. He was a former member of the Canisteo Rod & Gun Club, and the Canisteo American Legion Post. On November 26, 1960 he married the former Audrey Dennis who survives.



Pete enjoyed hunting, fishing, square dancing but most of all will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.



He was predeceased by his parents, and a twin son, Dale Dixon in 1962.



He is survived by his wife, Audrey to whom he was married 49 years, his daughter, Jolene (Shawn McQuarrie) Becker of Spencerport, 2 sons, David Dixon of Hornell and Rodney (Melody Shaffer) Dixon of Cameron. 4 sisters, Joyce (Billy Chitwood) of Virginia, Nancy (Edmond ) Dickerson of North Carolina, Margie (Bruce Oakley) of Woodhull, and Marie of PA., 2 brothers, Wayne Dixon of Naples and Earl Dixon of Florida, his daughter-in-law, Carol Dixon and son-in-law, Carl Becker, his uncle, Lloyd (Irene) Chaffee of Greenwood, good friends, Jim & Joy Rodas of Hamlin, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and nieces & nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4&7-9PM Monday at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM, Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
