Luella A. Barker, 86, of E. Main St. entered the gates of Heaven and was greeted by many loved ones, on Sunday (May 26, 2013) at St James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.



Born in Hornell, March 15, 1927, the daughter of David and Bertha (Smith) Griffin, she lived in Elmira from 1950 until 1966; moving back to Hornell. She was a member of the Living Waters Church and the Free Methodist where she taught Sunday school and the Junior Missions. Luella was a partner of the Special Olympics, Feed the Children and loved to play the piano and the guitar. Luella also loved dancing, picnics in the winter, and kids beeping the horn on her scooter, many TV shows. She loved sending and receiving cards, especially ones with glitter. Luella loved sharing goodies, homemade bread, canned peaches, beet jelly, green tomato minced meat, strawberry jam and "pantakes" for "sick" children. She had many saying including, Are Ya Hungry, Did you wash your hands, Wipe your feet, There's goodies out there, I've got a "small" list, I need a Kleenex, Burr it's cold, Turn it up a line, and most favorite, Love you baby and How are ya Honey. Luella also loved sharing special memories about the olden days including, Growing up on the Turnpike, Attending a one room school house, getting "Vick's" up, soup on the wood stove and sleigh rides home from school. She will be missed by those left behind and will be waiting for those who will join her.



In addition to her parents Luella was predeceased by her two husbands; and Alva Cramer in 1966 Lee Oliver Barker in 1977, two sons; David (Cathy) Cramer and Stephen Barker, sons-in-law; Raymond Wheaton and Robert Wood, granddaughter; Ashley Cramer; two brothers; Lyle (Marie) Griffin and Arthur (Frances) Griffin, one sister; Anna (Harold) Richardson, brother-in-law; Charles Cook.



She is survived by her daughter; Wendy Wheaton-Wood of Hornell, sister; Bernice Cook, daughter-in-law, Karen Barker, special nephew; Richard Richardson 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, her cat Buffy and all who called her Grandma Barker.

The family will be present to receive friends from 4pm until 7pm on Wednesday (May 29, 2013), at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 7Pm at the funeral home, Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 10am at Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
