Lois J. Hughes,69, of

9 Sawyer St. Site, passed away Tuesday (December 30, 2003) at her home.



Born in Hornell, November 4, 1934, the daughter of Claytonand Mildred (Starkes) Lorow, shehad resided in Hornell most all of her life.She received her RN degree from SUNY Alfred, and had been employed as aregistered nurse at the former Bethesda Community Hospital,the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Bath, the Three RiversNursing Home in Painted Post, and most recently for Southern Tier Hospice. Shewas a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hornell VFW, and the Cootiettes.



She was predeceased byher parents, her son Steven Hughes and onesister Janice Welch.



She is survived by two daughters: Lorna( DON ) Burgess of Ohio, AngieHughes of Hornell, two sons: James (Kim) Hughes of Hornell, Kenneth (Bonnie)Hughes of Syracuse, three brothers: Roger (Mary) Lorow of Altoona, PA, Gary(Debby) Lorow of Sanborn, Thomas (Kathy) Lorow of Brunswick, GA.

Several grand and great grandchildren.

Several nieces and nephews



The family will be present to receive friends at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM where the Ladies Auxiliary ofthe Hornell VFW will conduct a memorial service at 8 PM Friday. Funeralservices will be held on Saturday at 11AM with Rev. Michael Gallant officiating. Burial will be in Arkport Cemetery.
