Lois A. Stephens, 74, of Gas Springs Rd., passed away Sunday (June 23, 2013) at home surrounded by her family.



Born in Hornell, May 28, 1939, the daughter of Harold and Neva (Ebersol) Gavitt, she had resided in Canaseraga all her life. Lois retired as custodian from the Maple Apts. in Alfred and attended the Valley Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, gardening, making bear mats, but most of all her family.



In addition to her parents Lois was predeceased by her son, Louis Stephens in 2000.



She is survived by her husband Richard whom she married on December 31, 1956, three sons, Fran (Sandy) Stephens, Raymond (Diane) Stephens, and Richard (Kathleen) Stephens all of Canaseraga, two daughters, Joyce (Dave) Gates and Sue (John) Stephens both of Canaseraga, daughter-in-law, Michelle Stephens of Canaseraga, one brother, Charles (Janette) Gavitt of Canisteo, three sisters, Esther (Clair) Coyle of Stannards, Helen Thomas of CA and Margie (Mark) Taft of Campbell, seven grandchildren, Katie, Bradley, Holly, Brooke, Shelby, Tori and James, three great grandchildren, Rachel, Mason and Harper, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4pm and from 7-9pm on Tuesday (June 25, 2013), at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home at 11am, Rev. Jason Shambach officiating. Burial will be in Canaseraga Cemetery.
