Erskine, 87 a resident of State Route 36, passed away Thursday (August 31, 2023) at  Elderwood at Hornell.Born in Hornell, Dec. 4, 1935, he was the son of Howard Erskine Sr. and Esther Rice Erskine. He had resided his entire life in the Hornell-Canisteo Area.He was a graduate of Hornell High School and the Elohim Bible Institute He was a member of the Faith Independent Baptist Church in Canisteo. He had been employed as a Pressman at the Hornell Evening Tribune and the Dansville Press.  He was an avid fisherman.He was predeceased by his parents, his daughters, Suzanne Erskine and Terry O’Dell, his sisters, Marie Petteys, Mary Jean Grow and Joan McCormick, his brother, Chester Erskine, his great grandson, Jeremy Cole Stewart, and great great grand daughter, Isabella Dombrowski.To send a remembrance to the family, please visit www.brownandpowersfuneralhomes.com or on Facebook@Brown & Powers Funeral Homes.Surviving are his wife, Janice Campbell Erskine, his daughters, Karen (James) McGlynn of Bath, and Kathy (John) Townsend of Bath, his sons, David (Sharon) Erskine of Jasper, William (Gail) Erskine of Vermont, son-in-law William O’Dell,  his sister, Joyce Karns of Arkport and his brothers, John Erskine of Wayland and Howard (Jean) Erskine Jr. of Florida, sister-in-law Bonnie Erskine, and brother-in-law Larry (Carolyn) Campbell, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday (Sept. 5, 2023) at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM where funeral services will follow calling hours at 8 PM. Pastor Daniel Todd will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM at the West Jasper Cemetery.
