Leonard E. Root

Leonard E. Root Arkport Leonard E. Root, 86, of 1011 Sharps Hill Road, passed away Monday (August 24, 2009) at his home. Born in Mansfield, PA, December 3, 1922, the son of Carl and Eva (Cleveland) Root, he had resided in Arkport for more than 50 years. He was a graduate of the Troy Central School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Leonard started as a truck driver and then became a dispatcher for the former Cleveland Trucking Company of Hornell. He was predeceased by his wife Reva Dann Root in 2003, four brothers, Roger, Ivan, Lawrence and William Root, One sister, Evelyn Wood. He is survived by two sons; Donald (Marsha) Root and Glenn (Elaine) Root both of Texas, three daughters; Della Sue Beyea, Carol Ann (Duane) Howell and Janet (Dean) Caward all of Canisteo, one brother; Robert (Rita) Root of PA, two sisters; Carol (Bill) McCatharm of PA and Norma (Lynn) Pearson of TX, several grandchildren and several great grandchildren as well as several great great grandchildren. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday (August 29, 2009) at 2:00Pm at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell, NY.
