Leon G. Evingham, 80, passed away peacefully at the home of his son and daughter-in- law on Hart Street in Hornell on Wednesday Nov. 5, 2025. Known affectionately as George, he was born in North Hornell on May 7, 1945, the son of Leon O. Evingham and Eloise Jackson Evingham. After his mom's passing when he was 2, his grandparents, Frank and Elta Evingham raised him. He had resided his entire life in the Hornell area.

George had been employed for 38 years at the former Marion Rohr Company in Hornell where he was an expert industrial sewing machine mechanic. He loved spending time with his family teaching his son, Aaron, building trades. He also shared a passion for the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns with his son, Jason. George was a member of the Hornell Association for 25 years, where he continued to have many friends until his passing.

He was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, brothers Richard and Don as well as his sisters Audrey and Norma. Surviving are his sons, Jason (Bethany) Evingham of Canisteo, Aaron (Mindy) Evingham of Hornell, Cory Mattison of Addison, Eric (Becki) Mattison of Hornell, a daughter, Anita Mattison of Hornell, his sisters Darlene Bruce and Beverly Hendrickson both of Canisteo, his brother, Greg Evingham of Gouverneur, Several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Honoring Leon's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.

The family is being assisted by Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home of Hornell.
