Leon G. "Lee" Brisbee, 82, of 21 Mays Avenue, passed away unexpectedly Thursday (August 27, 2009) at his home.



Born in Cifford, PA., May 27, 1927, the son of Floyd and Doris Brisbee, he had resided in Hornell since about 1981. He had been employed as a heavy equipment engineer for several construction companies including A.L. Blades and Sons in Hornell. Following his retirement, he was self employed in carpentry work and built two new homes and remodeled several others for himself and others. Lee had volunteered for several years assisting the Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Lodge in their monthly fish frys at the Hornell Masonic Temple. He especially enjoyed Tuesday and Friday night pool games and going for coffee at JC's Cafe´ in Hornell. Lee had served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 1943-1947.

Lee will be remembered as a beloved husband, father and grandfather.



He was predeceased by his parents and 3 brothers, Everett, Floyd and Richard Brisbee.



He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Mehlenbacher of Hornell, his daughter, Dianna (Scott) Tuttle of Canaseraga, his son, Matt (Rachel) Mehlenbacher of Bath, 2 grandchildren, Casey and AJ Mehlenbacher, his sister, Beverly McAuley of Florida, sisters-in-law, Sally Brisbee of Florida and Marian Yawn of Georgia, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.



The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Tuesday at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM, Rev. Phillip Kuhn officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Bath National Cemetery.
