Lee J. Osmin, 82, of 24 Holly Terrace, Edgeview Estates, passed away Wednesday (August 26, 2009) at his home.



Born in the Town Of West Union, September 28, 1926, the son of John D. and Jossie McMindes Osmin, he had resided his early life in Rexville and on the Milwaukee Road in South Canisteo, before moving to Hornell in 1956. He was a graduate of Greenwood Central School, Class of 1944, and had served his country as a member of the U.S. Army. He was employed as a service man for National Fuel Gas Company for several years prior to his retirement in 1978. He later owned and operated his own furnace cleaning and repair business for several years.



Lee was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Hornell, Hornellsville Lodge #44 F & AM, as well as the Hornell Post of the American Legion. He also served for several years as a volunteer at the St. James Hospital Day Care, and the Interfaith Caregivers of Hornell. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church Disaster Relief Mission out of Geneva, and enjoyed many trips to West Virginia and Mexico rebuilding houses and churches destroyed by natural disasters.



He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Vivian Button Osmin in 2001, as well as one brother, Paul Osmin, and 4 sisters, Jeanette Reese, Anne Snyder, Dolores Morris, and Florence Freeman.



He is survived by his children, Kathy (Victor) Vareschi of Mass., Vickie (David) Burns of Cohocton, and Charles (Leilani) Osmin of Florida, special friend, Betty Lewis and family, 19 grandchildren, and 34 great grandchildren.



The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 1:30 -4 PM and 6:30 until 9 PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with his long time friend Rev. Harry Drake of West Virginia, assisted by Rev. David Kilgore officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Canisteo. To send a remembrance please visit www.brownandpowersfuneralhomes.com .
