L. Ethel Sheeley, 94, of Greenwood Street, passed away Wednesday (October 30, 2013) at the Hornell Gardens where she had resided the past 3 weeks.



Born in Hornell, November 20, 1918, the daughter of Raymond and L. Maud Cole Terry, she had resided in Hornell nearly all her life moving to Canisteo in 1983. Ethel was a graduate of Hornell High School Class of 1937 and in her early life was employed as a telephone operator for New York Telephone in Hornell. She was a member of the Republican Women, Business and Professional Woman's Club, the Mizpah Class of the Former East Avenue Methodist Church,

and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ethel was a community member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church. She was a caring home maker most of her life and enjoyed crafting and ceramics, but mostly will be remembered as a lady who was proud of her appearance especially her jewelry. She was a "Beautifully Tough" Woman who was loved by everybody who knew her.



She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Lucile Peck and brother, LeRoy Terry.



She is survived by her husband William Sheeley to whom she was married on November 13, 1948, her daughters, Janet (Earl) Lind of New Jersey, Alice (David) Gardiner of Canisteo, with whom she had made her home the past several years, and Susan (Christopher) Lind of New Jersey, her brother, Lawrence Terry of Hornell, 6 grandchildren, Lisa(Frank) Jaquett, Stacy Lind, Becky (Dan) Todd, Christina (Mike) Parmenter, Christopher (Aria) Camaione -Lind, and Eric (Marla)Lind,10 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday (Nov. 8, 2013) from 6 PM until 8 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo and on Saturday from 10 AM until 11 AM at the Canisteo Wesleyan Church where funeral services will follow calling hours at 11 AM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
