Kirk Douglas Gielow, 55 of East Main Street, Angelica, passed away at home on Tuesday (September 27, 2011) after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Warsaw, NY on March 14, 1956 he was the son of the late D. Yvonne Edmonds and the late Joseph Gielow Sr.
Kirk was a 1974 graduate of Angelica Central School and was a 32 year member of Iron Workers Local #6, where he advanced to a supervisory position for the past several years. He was a member of the Son of the American Legion Post #414.
Many will remember him as an avid sports fan, forever devoted to his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Kirk enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the great outdoors and had a deep love for animals, both domestic and wild.
Survivors include sister Tedde (Randy) Swarthout of Belmont, brother Joseph Gielow Jr. of Tonawanda, brother Timothy (Connie) Gielow of Wellsville, sister Becky Gielow formerly of Santa Fe, NM, a special nephew Kyle (Susan) Mangiero of Ellabell, GA, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends Sally and Melissa Olsen of Angelica.
Kirk's quick wit, kindness, gentleness and charming smile will be missed by all.
A Memorial service will be held Sunday (October 2, 2011) at 1:00pm at St Paul's Episcopal Church of Angelica, with a celebration of Kirk's life following at the American Legion in Angelica.
