Hornell



Passed away March 31, 2012 at Rochester General Hospital. He was born April 27, 1920 at St. James Mercy Hospital. He has joined his parents Guy and Lena Pelton Thompson who resided in Hornell.



Kenneth graduated from Hornell High School, class of 1939 and was employed in Buffalo at Curtis Wright from 1940 until 1944. He then joined the Navy, and was assigned on LST Boat No. 530. He carried Bob Didas and Victor Ross of Hornell from England to France in one of his 30+ crossings of the Channel, D Day at Juno Beach. He arrived from the Philippines to Sampson and was discharged December 23, 1945.



He married Vesta "Jean" Graham and they had a family before she died in January, 2004. Kenneth worked for the Bell Telephone Company for 37 years. After retiring, he was bored, so he worked at Silver Lake Marine for 22 years. On November 26, 2004, he married Clare Tyson Brownell in Williamsville. He was a member of the Hornellsville Lodge #44 F&AM for 60 years.



His big interests were sailing and ice boating at his cottage on Silver Lake where he spent so many years.



He is survived by his wife, Clare Tyson Thompson of Hornell, two sons; Kenneth (Diane) Thompson of Perry and Gary (Barbara) Thompson of Hornell; grandchildren, Michael of Geneseo, Karri (Clarice) of Long Island, Denise (Monte Trimble) of Alfred Station, Mark of Reno, NV, and Lorri (AJ Lauzze) of Victor, great grandchildren, Madison, Natalie, Alec and Luke.

After a military ceremony, he and Jean will rest at Bath National Cemetery Interment Shelter on Friday (May 18, 2012) at 11AM. A memorial service will be held on Saturday (May 19, 2012) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell, NY 14843 at 2Pm with the Rev. Marion Luce Officiating.
