Kenneth Everett Edwards was born on November 11, 1922, to Everett EllisEdwards and Gertrude Winifred (Graney) Edwards in Indianapolis, Indiana.He entered his eternal life with his God on January 8, 2008, in Wellsville, New York,at the age of 85. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 58 years, and threedaughters, Kathleen (Jim) Barnes of Little Genesee, Karrie Edwards (Jim Ninos)of Alfred, and Vicki (Allan) Moore of Simla, Colorado. He was blessed with sixgrandchildren, K.C. & Kaeli Moore, Trevor & Kolby (Krissy) Ninos, andNicholas and Christopher (Veronica) Fromherz. He has a beautiful great grand-daughter, Iliana Ninos, upon whom he doted, saying, "She's got potential!" Heis survived by two sisters, Helen Kellam and Vivian Smith, and one brother,John Edwards, all of Indiana.
Ken livedand worked in Indianauntil 1960, earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Universityin 1950. He served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1946. IN 1960, he moved withhis family to Denver, Colorado, where he worked forMartin-Marietta Aerospace. In 1985, he and Mary moved to Alfred, New York,where he later retired.
Ken hadmany interests and abilities. He was an avid artist and photographer as well asa musician, playing the guitar and singing with friends and family. Heparticipated in weekly line dancing at the YMCA in Hornell up until a weekbefore his death. While he lived in Colorado,he engaged in hunting, fishing, camping, and horsemanship, teaching his wifeand daughters how to ride, and enjoyed family vacation together engaging inthese activities. There was nothing that Ken could not do when he wasdetermined to do it. He ran his first (and only) marathon at the age of 56. Heearned his private pilot's license at the age of 62. He spent countless hoursgiving "art lessons" to his grandchildren and playing "treasure hunt" withthem. He also wrote many stories for his grandchildren. He was also theillustrator for a published children's book entitled, Jingles. Kentraveled extensively, even backpacking through Europewhen he was in his late 60's. He participated frequently with the Wee Playhousein Alfred.
Ken was afaithful member of God's community since his baptism in 1973. He attended Alfred Union University Church.He was an active member of The Gideons International, giving church reports andserving in their prison ministry, both preaching and leading music with hisguitar.
Ken was aremarkable man, a cherished husband, and a devoted father and grandfather. Heleaves a vacuum in the lives of his family and his community. The familysuggests that any memorial contributions be made in his memory to the GideonsInternational so that Bibles may be purchased to further the work of God'skingdom, the work that Ken was devoted to in his time among us.
