Kathleen S. Bertch, 72, of 11 Russell Street, passed away peacefully in the company of her family, Wednesday (January 20, 2010) at home.



Born in Warsaw, May 15, 1937, the daughter of William and Margaret Gates Smith, she had resided in Canisteo for many years. She had graduated from Geneseo High School, and R.B.I. in Rochester, and was a yoman in the Naval Reserve. Kathy retired from the Hornell City School system after 30 years retiring the same day as her husband Dean in 1999. She was a communicant of St Ann's Church in Hornell, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canisteo.



She is survived by her husband Dean Bertch, 2 daughters Victoria Fry of Hornell, Laurie (Roger Beyea) Bertch of Canisteo, 2 sons Daniel Fry of Rochester, Andrew (LeSandra) Bertch of Canisteo, sister Joan Grossman of Florida, brother William (Frances) Smith of Avon, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.



The family will be present 2-4 & 6-8 PM Saturday, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo, where Funeral and committal services will be held at 8:00 PM, with the Rev. Norma Bond officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
