Karen M. Hawkes 50, of 30 Seneca St., passed away Monday (March 8, 2010) at Rochester General Hospital.
Born in Hornell, July 25, 1959, the daughter of George W. Hawkes and Mary Alexander Bell, she had resided in the Hornell area all of her life. Karen is a member of the Living Waters Church where she taught Sunday school and children's church. Karen liked playing bingo and pogo. She will be remember for her joking personality and loved her family especially her grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father as well as one brother Dale Hawkes, one step sister; Patricia Gena, aunt and uncle who were like parents to her Virginia and Lester Johnson, step-father, Robert Alexander.
She is survived by her mother Mary Alexander Bell of Hornell, one son, Michael (Heidi) Button of Muncy PA, one daughter Nicole Button of Hornell, two sisters Darlene (Geoffrey) Hall and Doreen (Charles) Prutsman both of Hornell seven brothers, David (Marilyn) Casterline of PA, Rev. Phillip (Marcia) Casterline of Hornell, Lester (Diane) Johnson of Hornell, Danny Johnson of Elmira, George (Margaret) Johnson of Andover, Kevin and Rickie Johnson both of Hornell, two step-sisters, Melinda Cassidy of Indiana and Nickie Baker of Hornell, two step-brothers, Robert (BJ) Alexander III of Indiana and Aarron (Teresa) Alexander of Hawaii, one sister-in-law, Lynn Prisavage South Carolina Seven grandchildren, Anthony Button, McKenzie Button, Nathan Button, Samuel Button, Skyler Button, Ethan Button and Daelon Button.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday from 1PM until 3PM, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 3PM at the funeral home with Rev. Phillip Casterline officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery.
Friends may make memorial contributions to the Living Waters Church.
