Junior O. "O.J." James

Canisteo

Junior O. James, 82, a resident of Union Street, passed away Tuesday (Sept. 16, 2025) at his home.

Born in Olean, May 3, 1943, he was the son of Franklin and Lillian Meckley James. He had resided in Canisteo since 1984. O.J. was employed as a custodian at the Canisteo Central School District. He was a member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, and his wife Gloria James.

Surviving are his daughter, Darla (Gary) Carnahan of Pennsylvania, his sons, Timothy (Ginny) James and David (Jane Ann) James both of Pennsylvania, his sister, Nellie "Sandy" Valentine (Mike) of Pennsylvania, 16 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his "Bonus Children", Deborah Deal (Johnny) of North Carolina and Rev. Cheryl (Mark "Zeke") Remchuk of Texas, Douglas (Stephanie) Wright of Canaseraga, and Clifton (Roxanne) Wright of Florida.

Family and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday (Sept. 22, 2025) at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home 6 Spruce Street in Canisteo from 2PM until 4 PM. A Funeral Service will follow calling hours at 4 PM with Rev. Shannon Brumfield officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery Canisteo.
