Joyce E. Dearborn, 74, of 7978 State Route 36, The Oaks, passed away Saturday (September 5, 2015) at St James Mercy Hospital.



Born in Hornell, August 21, 1941, the daughter of Stanley and Ruth Hall Conklin, she had resided in Rochester the majority of her adult life, until her return to the area in 1995. After graduating from the Hornell High School in 1959 she began working for the Stromberg Carlson Company in Rochester until 1967. She then was enrolled at the Rochester Business Institute. She retired from the Eastman Kodak Company in 1995 after 23 years of service. She volunteered for the Foster Grandparents Program where she helped children in kindergarten and 1st grade, at St. Ann's School, the Hornell School District and the Arkport Central School. She enjoyed working in the yard and loved to travel. She attended the former Spencer United Methodist Church in Hornell and most recently attended the Hornell United Methodist Church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir.



She was predeceased by her parents.



She is survived by one daughter Jeanne Shawahin of Rochester, one granddaughter Nora Shawahin, one sister Ann Crowe of Hornell and 2 nieces Sue Wood and Kathleen Walker. She is also survived by her aunts Betty Johnston of PA, and Rose Conklin of Hornell, her cousins Sharon Francisco, Kevin and Jean Conklin and Jeans' mother Jean Alexin all of Hornell and her close friends Dick and Anita Friends and Doris Snowden all of Arkport, as well as many other friends.



The family will be present Wednesday, September 9, 2015, from 2PM until 5PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, with the funeral service to follow at 5PM. Rev. Patricia Bancroft will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
