Joyce E. Aber, 71, of
5281 State Route248, passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and family Sunday (March 23, 2008) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hornell, February 3, 1937, shewas the daughter of Bert and Laura Faulkner Preston. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School,Class of 1955, and received her RN degree in 1958 from the St. James School of Nursing. She was employed at St. James Mercy Hospital,the former Bethesda Community Hospitaland the Steuben County Public Health for 51 years prior to her retirement in1997.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, friend, andgrandmother. She enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas several times ayear for many years. She was a member ofKAHOCO, the Red Hats, and enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with herformer co-workers from Public Health on their "Nurses Nights". Joyce will beremembered as the "Go-To" Nurse for family, friends and neighbors and for hermany stories.
She was predeceased by her parents, and her brother BillPreston in 1999.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Jack Aber ofCanisteo, 3 daughters, Kathleen (Timothy) Harkenriderof Canisteo, Karen (John) Grillo of Hornell, and Kristine (Don) Allen ofCoopers Plains, 7 Grandchildren, Bailey, Jacquelyn and Lucia Grillo, Paul andJulia Harkenrider and Sarah and Jordan Allen, herbrother, Bob (Diane) Preston of PA., her sisters Jean (Dale) Houghtaling of Canisteo, and Jude Preston of Livonia, alsonieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will be present to receive friends from 2-4 &6-8PM Wednesday, at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery,Canisteo.
