Joseph N. Morey, 93, formerly of 32 Cottage Avenue passed away peacefully with his family by his side Tuesday (March 6, 2012) at McAuley Manor.
Born in Hornell, December 14, 1918, the son of Frank and Ethel (Cornish) Morey, he was a lifelong area resident, and had served in the US Navy during World War II. Joseph was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and a communicant of St. Ann's Church. He retired from the Erie, Erie Lackwanna, and Conrail as an electrician in 1976, and had also worked for the City of Hornell for the Department of Public Works. Joseph enjoyed handy work, but will be most remembered for being a family man, easy going, and loved by everyone.
He was predeceased by his parents, a grandson Thomas Getman, a brother Frank Morey, 3 sisters Angeline Woodworth, Jean Chase, and Helen Amidon, and a son in law Darold Getman.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years Dorothy (Bailey) Morey of Hornell a daughter Barbara Getman of Hornell 2 sons Joseph A. (Sandra) Morey of Arkport, Thomas (Eleanor) Morey of Arkport 2 sisters Cecile Daggs of Conn, and Joanne Woodworth of Hornell, 9 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
The family will be present 2-4 & 7-9 PM Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo Street, Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Ann's Church on Saturday, at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery, Fremont.
