JOSEPH CHARLES HAYNES
Joseph “Joey” Charles Haynes of North Hornell, was born at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, NY on October 12, 1968. Joe passed away on March 18, 2024. Joe grew up in Genesee, PA with his eight siblings before moving to Hornell where he met his wife of 37 years, Lindsay (Spike) Haynes. Joe and Lindsay were married on August 16, 1986. Joe graduated from the Hornell High School and served in the Navy from 1987-1991. During that time, Joe and Lindsay had two children, Jolynne (Thomas Burritt) and Justin (Emily Haynes).
Joe was a hard working man, dedicated to providing all he could for his family. He worked many jobs over the years but spent many years as an air conditioning technician at Transit Air. As a father, he coached baseball for many years. Joe never missed an event for his children, from cheerleading competitions to football games and more. He was the definition of an ideal husband and father. Joe seamlessly transitioned into “Pop-Pop”, with unparalleled love and devotion to his eight grandchildren; Jack, Sarah, Henry, Benjamin, Ellie, William, John, and Max. He enjoyed tinkering on projects and was an avid Buffalo Bills and Boston Red Sox fan. In 2007, Joe had a series of strokes that left him disabled. Thanks to his amazing, strong, and loving wife he was able to live at home and continue his incredible life surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered by his red handkerchiefs, jelly beans and gum, cheesy dad jokes, Seinfeld quotes, and his spoiled little dogs, Charlie and Daisy.
Joe was predeceased by his father and mother, Roger and Sylvia Haynes, and his brother, William “Bill” Haynes. He is survived by his wife, daughter, son, and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Mike (Dee) Haynes and Steve (Phyllis) Haynes, his five sisters Dawn (Brian McGregor) Haynes, Mary (Doug) Mills, Patty (Dan) Larson, Sylvia James, and Robin (Skip) Loucks, and many nieces and nephews.
