Joseph C. Doorley, 73, of 8 Main Street, passed away peacefully Sunday (August 25, 2013) at Vincent House in Wayland.



Born in Hornell, June 11, 1940, the son of Carson and Bertha Trask Doorley, he had resided in the Hornell-Almond area all his life. He was a graduate of Alfred Almond High School in the class of 1958.He had been employed as an engineer and inspector for the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell prior to his retirement. Joe served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1961. He was a member of the Hornell Post, American Legion and the Hornell Lodge of Elks. Joe will be remembered for his love of hunting and fishing.



He was predeceased by his parents, one sister, Jean Kernan and one brother, Thomas Doorley.



He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peg" Doorley of Almond, 2 sons, Gene (Michele) Doorley and Matthew (Wendi) Doorley both of Hornell. 3 sisters, Carolyn (Joe) Ahearn of Bath, Alice (Bill) Hoffman of Alma, and Betty Angel of Massachusetts, 4 grandchildren, Matt Willcox, Tayghan Doorley, Carson Doorley and Ashlin Doorley.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday from 4-6 PM at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Almond.
