Corning, NY—Joseph M. DeSerio, formerly of Bath, NY, went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018. He was a resident at Corning Center.
Born November 6, 1921 in Hornell, NY to parents who emigrated from Italy, Joe was proud of his Italian heritage. He was predeceased by his parents, his five siblings, his dear wife Esther (Marble), mother of his three children, and his in-laws Clifford and Mildred Wilcox of Arkport, NY.
Having proudly served his country during WWII in Europe, Joe was an avid reader of any books on the history of WWII. He worked as a licensed surveyor and retired from the NYSDEC in 1983.
Joe's primary calling was as an ordained minister with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He pastored churches in Youngstown, NY and Addison, NY. His last parish of seventeen years was Bucks Settlement Community Church near Bath. After retirement he continued filling pulpits in area churches, performing many weddings and conducting funerals.
He is survived by his sons Joe, Jr. and Mark DeSerio, and daughter JoAnne (Kelvin) Jones of West Granby, CT, grandchildren Keely (Mark) Stater of West Hartford, CT, and Stacey (Mike) Rice, and six great grandchildren: Tori (Zachary) Watson, Michael, Taylor, and Colby Rice, and Sam and Annabelle Stater. Former daughter-in-law Barbara Bullock remained a kind and helpful part of his life. Barb and her family were very close to their "Dad" and "Grandpa." He is survived is his wife Lucille, her son Greg (Julie) Schuchardt, grandchildren, Kristy (Jordan) Harrison, Andy, Adam, Katie, and Kelly, brother-in-law Gerald (Sylvia) Loghry and family.
Calling hours will be from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday (April 5, 2018) at the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church located at 6034 County Rt. 69, Canisteo, NY, 14823. A funeral service will follow immediately conducted by Rev. Dr. Kelvin S. Jones, assisted by Rev. Dan Pickering and Pastor Ed Crandall.
