John (Kent) Meyer, 78, longtime resident of Canisteo, passed away surrounded by his loving family in Woodbridge Virginia, after battling extenuating illnesses. He was married to Patricia (Buchinger) Meyer, and the couple had three caring children; Monica Hall, Donald Meyer and Stacey Dessecker. John was born in Buffalo, the son of John F. and Virginia Meyer, and is survived by one sibling, Karen Kendall.

John is survived by his spouse, his three children and their spouses, many grandchildren, his and his wife’s siblings, as well as nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. John retired after 30 years as a machinist from the railroad where his love of trains began. John was an active member of several amateur radio clubs and developed an elementary school amateur radio program to contribute to his ongoing love of radio science.

A Small visitation will be held at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home in Canisteo on Friday (June 25, 2021) at 12 Noon followed by a short memorial service at 1 PM. A Celebration Of Life reception will follow at Cider Creek, 6459 Cunningham Creek Road in Canisteo, NY 14823 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests individuals donate to one of his favorite passions inspiring students through Amateur (Ham) Radio.
