Jeffrey L. Gardner, 51, of 6371 South Woods Road, went to be with the Lord Friday (January 21, 2011) surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer.



Born in Hornell, NY, June 1, 1959, Jeff was the youngest son of James and Lynne (Tumser) Gardner. He was a 1978 graduate of Canisteo Central School where he excelled as a wrestler and football player. On July 23, 1983 he married his high school sweetheart and best friend, Kim (Thomas) Gardner who survives.



Jeff worked as a construction worker in the area for 30 years and spent the last four years at the NYSDOT out of Hornell. Jeff dedicated some of his time to the Canisteo Midget Football program as a defensive coach. He was a member of the Canisteo School Board for 3 years and was serving his 13th year on the Howard Town Board. Jeff enjoyed swimming in his pond, spending time with his family, and was an avid hunter. He was known for his big smile, sense of humor, and helping hand. He was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle in Hornell, the NRA, former member of the Canisteo Rotary Club and the Canisteo Grange.



Besides his wife Kim, Jeff is survived by his four children, Becca of Belmont, John of Orlando, FL, Liz of Hornell, and Jacob of Rochester.



Jeff was predeceased by both of his parents, his two brothers, Jimmy and John, and his mother-in-law, Louise Thomas.



Friends and family are welcome to call at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home 6 Spruce St Canisteo from 2-4 & 7-9 on Friday, January 28, 2011. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM, Pastor Tim Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Fremont Cemetery.
