Jean E. Travis

Jean E. Travis, 92, of 480 Maple Court Homes, passed away Monday (August 15, 2016) at the Hornell Gardens, after a brief illness.
Born in Corning, May 20, 1924, the daughter of Claude and Viva (Sleeper) VanGorder, she was a graduate of Owego High School, and resided in Hornell, most of her life. She was a former member of the Hornell Association, and a current member of the Hornell VFW Ladies Auxillary.
She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Richard M. VanGorder.
She is survived by her son Kenneth (Linda) Smith of Green Bay, WI, a daughter Nedra (Alden) Tucker of Apalachin, NY, 6 grandchildren Lois, Jenni, Kristen, Tonya, Nichole, and Charles, 10 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, her friend and neighbor Sherry Pease, and all her friends at the VFW.
The family will be present 2-3pm Thursday, August 18, 2016, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St., Hornell, where funeral services and a VFW service will be held at 3:00 PM, with the Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Sleeper Hill Cemetery, Warren Center, Pennsylvania, on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 12:00 PM.
