Obituary

Jason A. "Rhino" Shinebarger, a loving son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend, of Canisteo, NY, passed away unexpectedly on February 22, 2026, at the age of 49.

Born in Hornell, NY, on June 15, 1976, Jason was the son of Ray and Mary Shinebarger. He grew up in Arkport, NY, where he formed lifelong friendships and graduated from Arkport Central School, Class of 1994. From an early age, Jason was known for his big heart, strong presence, and the unmistakable energy he carried into every room.

If you were fortunate enough to spend time with Jason, you were undoubtedly greeted with his huge smile and enthusiastic "Whaaaattzzzuppp", a greeting that he picked up from his good friend, Julio. That joyful spirit was simply who he was. Jason had a way of making people feel welcome, seen, and appreciated. He loved deeply and without hesitation, especially when it came to his family. Even during his own struggles, he was always ready to lend a hand, offer support, or give his time to anyone in need. His generosity and loyalty were constants in the lives of those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving parents, Ray and Mary Shinebarger of Fremont; his brothers, Jeremy (Nicole) Shinebarger and Joe (Jessica) Shinebarger; his stepson, Cullen Davis, and stepdaughter, Julia Coombs; and his beloved nieces and nephew, Kalin Shinebarger, Morgan Shinebarger, Brooke Shinebarger, and Riley (Alexia) Shinebarger. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

Jason was predeceased by his grandparents, Richard Shinebarger, Ella O'Dell, and Clayton and Alice Toombs.

While he will be deeply missed, the light and love he brought into the world will never fade.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday (February 27, 2026) at the Arkport American Legion starting at 4:00pm.
