Janice Patricia Fairchild (Ide) "Patty" entered into rest after battling lung cancer. She resided in her daughter's home in Hornell for many years. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was born June 9, 1936 in Hornell to Viola and Harry Ide. She grew up in Almond and graduated from Alfred Almond School in 1954. She worked at Marion Rohr for many years and as a baker at the Donut Shoppe in Hornell and also at Dominic's Bakery. She married Donald Sheridan Sr. in 1954 and gave birth to two children. She remarried to Gordon Fairchild in 1978.
She was predeceased by her parents, her mother who passed away in 1992, and her father in 1976. She was also predeceased by brother Lawrence John Ide, her niece Amy Ide, and her sisters Shirley Sisson, and Phyllis Drake, and husband Gordon.
She is survived by her sister Harriet Jay of Hornell, her brother William W. (Vicky) Ide of Canisteo, her former husband and close friend Donald Sheridan Sr. of Hornell, her two former brother in laws David (Kathy) Smith, and Daniel (Kay) Smith of Hornell, her son Donald (Cheryl) Sheridan Jr. of Rochester, her daughter Deborah (Mike) Cone of Hornell, her grandchildren Kelly Marie (Andrew) Coddington, Heather Ann (T.J.) Meehan, Bryan Joseph Sheridan, Emily Jean (Chris) Henshaw, Matthew Edward (Corrie) Sheridan, and Kari Lyn Sheridan, great grandchildren Dylan, Travis, and Nikolas Carlton, Trey and Conner Meehan, Tyler, Haylie, and Jada Henshaw, she is also survived by nephews, nieces, cousins, and many close friends.
Janice was passionate about animals and loved her cats. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, and spending time with her family. She loved life itself and found happiness in everyday miracles.
The family will receive friends from 4-8pm Friday (September 16, 2011) at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo St. Hornell. Burial will be at Almond Woodlawn Cemetery.
