Janice L. Huff, 84, of 70 Fulton Street, passed away Tuesday (August 16, 2016) shortly after arrival at St James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Canisteo, February 10, 1932, the daughter of Roy and Leah Norton Loper, she had resided most of her life in the Hornell and Canisteo area. Janice was a graduate of Canisteo Central School, Class of 1950, and had been employed as a telephone operator for New York Telephone in Hornell and Olean. Later, she was employed at the former Panosian's Shoe Store in Hornell for several years. She was a member of the former St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Hornell, the "Lets Dance Club", and the Telephone Pioneers. Janice enjoyed sewing, upholstering and caning and especially making wedding cakes with her long time friend Mabel Beers of Canisteo. She especially enjoyed playing euchre with her brother Jack.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Merle Huff Jr in 2005, her infant daughter Mary Ann Huff, her sister, Rosemary Pfitzenmaier, her brother Jack Loper and her step-sister, Bonnie Amidon.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy (Kirk) Walker of Dansville, her son, James Huff of Hornell, her grand daughter Nicole Walker as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5-7PM Friday, August 19, 2016, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 7:00 PM, Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.
