Janet Marie Roberts, 96, of Annandale, Virginia, died August 3, 2015 at Virginia Hospital Center. She was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania to Agnes and Oscar Silfies. She grew up in Angelica, NY. She met her husband to be in the sixth grade, and they later loved to dance to big band music. She was on the drama team, a cheerleader, a basketball player, and the Valedictorian of her High School.
Later she opened a beauty parlor in Angelica, NY. After her marriage to Harold "Tommy" Roberts during WWII, she worked for The Red Cross and The Department of the Interior in Washington, D.C.. She later worked at the Iva Trice Dress shop in Springfield, VA, as co-owner with her husband while being a homemaker.
She participated in her children's education and was active in local elections and politics. She loved staying abreast of current events and promoted causes that were important to her. She volunteered for various organizations for the disadvantaged, for her children's youth group, and was a member of the Annandale United Methodist Church where she volunteered for ACCA and sung in the choir. She had a love for life and animals and instilled that in her children. She was a pianist and singer, and performed with her husband and sisters for various functions.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Harold, her brother Robert (Bob) Silfies, and her sister Maxine "Babe" Olwsowsky. She is survived by her daughters Jill Roberts-Wilson of California and Lisa Roberts of Virginia, and sister Bette Rowe of Rochester, NY. She is also survived by nieces Julie Cooke, Robin Boddy, Dianna "Cookie" Moss, Brenda Bowers, and nephews Paul Roberts, Dick Roberts, Dale Roberts, Michael Rowe, Monk Rowe, Corey Rowe, and numerous grandnieces, and grandnephews.
A service is to be held at the Angelica United Methodist Church on Park Circle in Angelica, NY, on Monday, August 17th, at 1pm. The burial will take place at the Until the Day Dawn Cemetery in Angelica, NY.
A prior service is to be held in Virginia at Annandale United Methodist Church, 6935 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003, on Saturday, August 15th, at 1pm.
