Janet D. "Jackie" Jackson,81 of
60 Maple Street,entered peacefully into eternal rest Monday (January 8, 2007) at St. James Hospital.
Born in Canisteo, July 11, 1925, the daughter of Dr. Glee and Ethel Dawson Cheesman,she had resided several years in North Hornell,as well as the Cunningham Creek and Burt Hill area of Canisteo before makingher home in the Villageof Canisteoin 1985. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central Schooland had attended Miss Bairds Finishing School in New Jersey, and the Centenary Junior College. Jackie had assisted her father in his medicalpractice for several years, and in later years was employed as a school busdriver for the Canisteo School District.She was active in the "Foster Grandmothers" program at the Avoca Central School, and was assistantlibrarian at the WimodaughsianLibrary in Canisteo . Jackie was an active member of the Gospel Tabernacle Church.
She was predeceased by her parents and her first husband, Robert Meacham in 1949,her sister Doris Robbins, and a "Special Sister", Marjorie Madison.
She is survived by three sons: Terry (Kim) Meacham of Hornell, Douglas (Rita)Jackson of South Carolina and Charles (Brenda) Jackson of Palmyra, 3 grandchildren, JoshuaMeacham of Hornell, Joseph and Cathleen Jackson of Palmyra.
The family will be present to receive friends from 3-5 & 7-9 PMThursday at the Brown & PowersFuneral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 AM with Rev. Timothy Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery,Canisteo.
