James “Jim” Bennett Stewart

James “Jim” Bennett Stewart, passed away on September 3, 2024 at Elderwood Nursing Facility.
He was born on August 19, 1938 in Canisteo the son Viola Rhoda Bennett Stewart, and Howard K. Stewart. Jim lived in Canisteo area all his life, attending Canisteo Central School. He was never far from farming, whether he was spraying crops for Agway, driving milk truck for Paddock’s in Jasper, or working on a farm in Troupsburg. He worked for the Town of Canisteo Highway Department until he retired. Even after he retired you could find him on a tractor, raking hay. He was a member of the Canisteo Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years.
James is survived by his children: Veronica (Dale) Olin of Hornell, Melinda (Jeffery) Anderson of Albuquerque, NM, Darlene (Will) Ingold of Clayton, NC, Donald (Lynn Lorren) Stewart of Wilmington, NC, his grandchildren: Jessica (Derek) Kimball of Canisteo, Wade (Michaela) Olin of Hartsville, KaitLyn Anderson, AshLyn Anderson of Alburquerque, NM, Hanna Grecco, Michael Greco of Clayton, NC, Siblings: William Stewart, Richard Stewart, Catherine (Gerald) MacDougal, Deanna (Robert) Terry, Ellen Stewart, Robert (Jane) Stewart, Debbie (Lynn) Austin, Dana Stewart, Michael Stewart, Roger Stewart, sister in law Rita Stewart, brother in law James Leach, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, siblings: David Stewart, Norman and sister in law Beatrice Stewart, Joyce Leach, Nanette and brother in law Robert Allen, sisters in law: Charlene Stewart, Elaine Stewart: infant sister and brother Eugene and Ruth Stewart.
A graveside service will be at Hillside Cemetery on Saturday (September 7, 2024) at 11:00am with Rev. Dudley Jenkins officiating.
