James Alan Spike

James A. Spike age 82 of Cleveland Avenue, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday (December 29, 2025) at Elderwood Nursing Home.
He was born in Nunda, NY on October 19, 1943 the son of Leon Spike and Orsina Underwood Spike. In 1963 he married Donna Gordon Spike who predeceased him in 2015. He had worked for Pattons Busy Bee for many years, and later retired from the City of Hornell working for the DPW. James enjoyed playing cards, going out to eat, endless road trips, and boating excursions on the Finger Lakes.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife Donna Spike, his son in law Joseph Haynes 4 brothers Carl, William, Thomas, and Howard Spike, 5 sisters Ruth Willett, Betty Scott, Joanne Spike, Carolyn Spike and Mary VanSkiver.
He is survived by his 4 daughters Carolin (Michael) Campbell of North Hornell, Lindsay Haynes of Arkport, Amber (Kevin) DuBois of Canisteo, Christina (James) Rawleigh of Hornell, 2 sons Leonard (Kim) Spike of Lamoka Lake, James Spike of Nebraska, 3 brothers Richard, Charles and Daniel Spike, 2 sisters Barbara Spike and Geraldine Hess, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday (January 6, 2026) from 10-11am at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo Street in Hornell, with a Funeral Service to follow at 11:00am with Pastor Doug Jones officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Hornell.
