James R. Prouty Sr., 80, of 1 Park Hills Drive, passed away early Sunday morning (March 13, 2011) at his home.
Born in Hornell, April 24, 1930, the son of Nathanial and Mildred Baker Prouty, he had resided in Canisteo his early life and in Dansville for several years. He had served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1948-1957. He was a member of the GoHo Post #87, American Legion, the VFW in Dansville and the Arkport United Methodist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, his son, Douglas in 1962, his daughter, Louise Mader in 1990, as well as his sister, Eloise Purdy, and brothers, Richard, Robert and Vernon Prouty.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Wheeler Prouty of Dansville, his children, James (Shana) Prouty Jr. of Florida, Edwin (Diane) Prouty of Hornell, Frank (Patty Ryan) Prouty of Piffard, Terry (Pam) Rice of Birdsall, and Sheri (Randy) Palmer of Dansville, 2 sisters, Virginia Klick of Lyons and Mildred "Betty" Prouty of Canisteo, several grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
