James A. Plank, 77, of 3940 County Route 14, passed away Thursday (May 17, 2012) at his home.
Born in Hornell, February 28, 1935, the son of Jesse and Clarabelle Chapman Plank, he had resided a short period of time in Texas, and the remainder of his life in this area. He was self employed in general contracting. He was a member of the NRA, life member of the North American Hunting Club, and past member of the North American Fishing Club. He was an avid stock car driver (#66) in Woodhull, and Angelica as well as other race tracks. He was proud to be a licensed pilot.
He was predeceased by his parents, 3 sons, Ricky, Randy and Keith, and 2 brothers, Jesse A. Plank Jr., and Bill Plank.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Burchard Plank, to whom he had been married over 60 years, 5 daughters, Charlene Plank Thayer of Bath, Diana Plank of Bath, Brenda Plank Sutton (Wayne Sr.) of Cameron Mills, Marcia Plank Rice (Curtis Sr.) of Canisteo, and Dawn Plank Fowler of Arizona, 1 son, James T. Plank of Canisteo, 2 daughters-in-law, Frances M. Plank of Canisteo and Judy L. Plank of Bath, 2 brothers, Jack (Pat) Plank of Campbell, and Larry (Renae) Plank of Canisteo, 2 sisters, Bonnie Saltzer of Prattsburg, and Mary Stout (Charles) of Whitesville, special friends, Scott & Brandy, Gert & Dave, Earl& Sally and Ron &Susie, 22 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, aunts and uncles.

The family will be present on Tuesday from 10 AM until 12 Noon and 2 PM until 4 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo where funeral services will be held following calling hours at 4 PM. Rev. Edward Crandall will officiate. Burial will be in Plank Family Cemetery, Town Of Howard.
