Lehman, 78 a resident of Bush Hill road, passed away Thursday (Sept. 7, 2023) surrounded by his loving family.Born in Hornell, he was the son of Otto and Eileen France Lehman. He was a graduate of Arkport Central School, Class of 1963, and received his Associates Degree from Alfred State College as a lover of animals in Animal Husbandry. He had been employed as a lineman for NYSEG in Hornell for 33 years. Jim proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was an active member of the Hornell American Legion Post.James was never happier than when he was in the woods hunting or fishing at a secret pond. His limitless pursuit of a trophy deer during the many seasons of archery, gun and muzzleloader from first to last light was an example of who he was. Likely this led to his friends and co-workers knowing him by the name “Buck”. James faced every challenge with perseverance, he stayed focused and keep his eyes and ears open. This approach brought him success over the years, not only in his recreation but also in his career.James had an enormous heart and a sense of giving, one of the key components of his happiness was developing those skills in his children and grandchildren. Striving to succeed no matter how difficult the obstacle in education, work or play you could just take a glance and you would see him brimming with pride when you achieved your goal. He was clever, full to the brim with knowledge he gained through life’s many experiences: father, grandfather, farmer, and lineman. James was known by family and friends as the one to call - he could fix or build anything.James truly loved his family and friends and if you knew him, you felt it sincerely. When his time came, he left this world with dignity, strength, and honor. He will be dearly missed and always remembered. He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, Jonathan, Joseph, Larry, Charles and Kenneth Lehman.Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jeanette Archibald Lehman, his daughter, Laura (James) Hunt of Canisteo, his son, Michael (Michelle) Lehman of Canisteo, his brother, Fred (Eileen) Lehman of Hornell and his sister, Nancy Allington of Corning, 5 grandchildren, Evan Lehman, Hannah Lehman, Sarah (Fiancé Hunter McCaffery) Lehman, Breen Allen and Zachary (Brenna) Hunt, his guardian son, Peter (Sam) Lehman of Greenwood and their children Carter Lehman, Lucas Lehman and Morgan Lehman.
