James E. Forester, 80, of 5 Jackson Street, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (July 12, 2015) shortly after arrival at St. James Hospital after becoming ill at his home.



Born in Bath, NY, May 1, 1935, the son of Edward S. and Marguerite Covell Forester, he had resided in the Canisteo and Hornell area all his life. He was a graduate of Hornell High School and had received his associate's degree from Jones College in Florida.



Jim had been employed as a corrections officer nearly all his life at Groveland Correctional Facility. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Canisteo Rod & Gun Club and the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.



He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Rose Bancroft Forester in 2012 and his second wife, Catherine Henry Forester in 2014.



He is survived by his son, David (Melody) Forester of Dansville and his sister, Hazel Meredith of Angelica, 3 grandchildren, Jeremy, Rebecca and Courtney Forester, several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2PM-5PM on Thursday at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo. Funeral services and military honors will be held at the funeral home following calling at 5PM, Rev. Gregory White officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
