James D. Comes, 49, of
305 North Water St, went to be with theLord, Saturday (March 15,2008) at Robert Packer Hospital,in Sayre, Pa.
Born in Ithaca,April 25, 1958, ason of James A. and Agnes (Meyer) Comes, Jim had resided the majority of hislife in the Almond area, before moving to Knoxvillein 1987.
Jim was a graduate of the Alfred Almond Central Schoolclass of 1976, he then graduated in 1980 from The Pennsylvania State Universitywith a bachelor's degree in horticulture, and in 1994 Jim received his mastersfrom the Universityof Phoenix inorganizational management.
Jim had been employed by the former Hornell AGWAY; from 1987to 1992 Jim was the manager of the Knoxville AGWAY. In 1992 he then started asan Instructor and later became an Associate Professor at Alfred State Collegehorticulture dept. until the program ended.Jim was well known for his caring personality his passion for teachingand was loved by all of his students. Jim loved woodworking and taught by master craftsman to make hand-carved bowls. Healso loved exotic plants, and was a devoted Penn State Football fan.
For the last 4 ? years Jim and Michele owned and operatedthe Sears store in Wellsboro,Pa.
Along with his parents he is survived by his loving wifeMichele (Sable) Comes whom he married on October 14, 1989, one sister: Cindy(John) Ketz of Rocky Hill, CT., one brother: Joe(Sandy) Comes of Buffalo, father and mother-in-law Arthur and Shirley Sable ofNorth Bay NY; 2 brothers-in-law, Tom (Becky) Sable of Canisteo, Jon (Lara)Sable of Hiddenite NC, his loving dog Keesha, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will be present to receive friends at theBender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home 354 Canisteo St, Hornell from 2-4PM & 7-9PM Wednesday (March 19, 2008) and on Thursday (March 20, 2008) from 11AM-1PM where funeral services willfollow calling hours at 1PMwith Rev. Steve Dygert officiating. Burial will be in Alfred Rural Cemetery.
