James D. Burse, 66, of Thacher St., passed away Friday (July 29, 2016) at the VA Medical Center in Buffalo.



Born in Corning, September 26, 1949, the son of Frederick and Anah Quick Burse, he had resided most of his life in Hornell. James was a graduate of Hornell High School and was a member of the Hornell Association, a life member of the VFW, the Moose Lodge, AMVETS and the Dansville Rod & Gun Club. He was treasurer for the Steuben County SCOPE and a member of the former Eagles Club. He enjoyed his motorcycle, was a true patriot, and a firm believer in the second amendment. He especially loved and cherished his Chow Chow's, was a diehard Raiders Fan, and was known as the "Super Trooper of Thacher Street".



He was predeceased by his parents and an infant brother- Alfred Burse and his granddaughter, Toni Marie White.



He is survived by his wife Patricia (Vincent) Burse of Hornell, 3 daughters; Mary Jean(Chris Clancy) Presler of Hornell, Jeanie Burse of Hornell and Nancy Burse of Arkport, 3 grandsons; Jason Stidham of Hornell, to whom James was an influential role model and father figure in his upbringing, Dustin Hann and Damon Risley both of Hornell, 1 brother; John Burse of Cassadaga and 4 sisters; Linda McHale of Hornell, Louise (James) Hartman of Canisteo, Lois (James) Puffer of Corning and LuAnne Foy of Canisteo, nieces and nephews.

The family will be present on Wednesday (August 3, 2016) from 2-4PM and 6-8PM, to receive friends at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell, where military honors will be accorded at 7:45 PM. Funeral services will follow at 8PM.
