James Lee Burgess, 60, of 155 North Main Street, passed away Monday (April 4, 2016) at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in Hornell, February 28, 1956, the son of James Leo and Catherine Burdick Burgess, he had resided in Hornell all his life. He was a graduate of Hornell High School and had been employed for several years as a locomotive mechanic for the former Foster Wheeler Corporation in Dansville, now known as A.M.P.
Jim was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp. He was a member of the Hornell Association and ABATE of New York. Jim enjoyed repairing cars but especially spending time with his family
He was predeceased by his parents.
He is survived by his daughters, Shauna Burgess of Cohocton, Melissa (Chris) Sherwood of Hornell, Maria Henry of Texas, Jennifer (Corey) Shiloh of Arkport, Heather (Nicholas) Shiloh of Arkport; two sons, James Robert (Carol) Campbell of Horseheads, and James W.L. (Amy) Burgess of Andover, two sisters, Barbara Stuckey of Hornell and Joni (Bruce) Eldridge of Hornell, two brothers, Thomas (Terreasa ) Burgess of Hornell and Danny (Alisha) Grinols of Hornell, his step father, Dan Grinols of Hornell; his best friends, Ralph and Tricia Cleveland, and Tony and Sarah Patrick all of Hornell, 19 Grandchildren nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM and on Thursday from 10 AM to Noon at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at Noon with Rev. Patrick Harrison officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Rural Cemetery, Hornell. The family requests that family and friends wear casual attire to the visiting hours and funeral.
