Irene R. Shorts, 84, of 5 Stewart Street, passed away Wednesday (January 5, 2011) at the Seager-Bates Home in Hornell.



Born in Canisteo, June 10, 1926, the daughter of Carl and Geraldine Gillis, she had resided in Canisteo all her life. She was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and had been employed for 26 years in food service for the Canisteo School District retiring as cafeteria manager. She was a member of the Canisteo Wesleyan Church and had been employed as a real estate salesman with her sister, Audrey Clauson.



She was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Shorts, her son, John Michael Shorts, and her sister, Audrey Clauson.



She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Tom) Lecceardone of Farmington, her sons, Mark and Joel Shorts of Canisteo, her sister, Patricia Gokey of Jamestown, and her brother, James (Marlene) Gillis of the Dominican Republic, 2 grandchildren; Angela (Eric) Calkins and Lisa (Andy) Humphrey, 2 great grandchildren; Evan Calkins and Drew Humphrey.

The family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 4 PM until 6 PM at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 6 Spruce St., Canisteo, where a memorial services will follow calling hours at 6:00 PM, Rev.Donald Maynard officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo.
