Canaseraga
Ira D. Evans, 74, of 38 North Church St., passed away Saturday (August 18, 2012) at Noyes Hospital, in Dansville and entered Heaven with the love of his life.
Born in Hornell, May 28, 1938, the son of Shirley and Margaret (Mullen) Evans, he had resided in Canaseraga most of his life. Ira retired as a press operator from the Hornell Evening Tribune and was a member of the Larger Parish Church in Canaseraga. He was also a member of the Canaseraga Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Canaseraga Volunteer Fire Police. Ira was the current president of the Young at Heart Group and played Santa Claus, visiting local facilities including the Canaseraga Legion. He was an avid collector as well as a loving family man with a great sense of humor.
He was predeceased by his parents and his loving wife, Barbara (DuBois) Evans in 2010, one step-brother; John Griffith.
He is survived by two sons; Michael (Janet Robinson) Evans of Swain and Ira Scott Evans of Olean, three daughters; Donna (Terry Fisher) Coombs of Canisteo, Diane (Brian) Morse of Hornell and Dawn Evans of Canaseraga, one sister; Linda Evans of Rochester, three step-sisters; Jackie Baker, Nancy Coe and Sharon Stephen Claire, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5Pm until 7Pm on Wednesday (August 22, 2012), at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. Funeral services will follow calling hours at 7Pm at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
