Long time Hornell Businessman, Ira C. "Bud" Ames Jr., 87, of 7562 Seneca Road North, passed away Tuesday (December 18, 2012) at the Wellsville Manor.
Born in Perry, December 10, 1925, the son of Ira C. Ames Sr. and Lola Perkis Ames, he had resided in Arkport, Burns and Canaseraga prior to moving to the Town of Hornellsville in 1963. Bud had served his country as a member of the Army Air Force during WW-2. Earlier in his life he was employed by the former Erie Railroad, Arkport Dairies and former Foster Wheeler Corporation in Dansville. He had been the owner of the Kendall Service Station in Dansville, the Atlantic Service Station and Ames Sunoco, both on Seneca Street in Hornell, and the Interloop Auto Parts in Hornell. He was later employed for Thomas Parinello at Parinello Construction , Parr Construction and Wadsworth Management as well as Hooker Enterprises. Bud was a member of both the Arkport and Canaseraga American Legion Posts for over 66 years, Hornell Elks Lodge #364, Hornell Moose Lodge #210, and Hornellsville Lodge #44 F&AM. Bud enjoyed hunting, traveling and spending summers at Keuka Lake. He had attended the Canisteo Wesleyan Church.
He was predeceased by his parents, first wife, Oral (Neale) Ames, his step-mother, Gladys King Ames, his sister, Marge Eimer, and his grandson, Thomas C. Ames 11.
He is survived by his wife, Vera Dunning Ames, to whom he was married in 2009, 3 sons, Ronald Bridge of Hornell, Thomas (Sue) Ames of Hornell and John (Cindy) Ames of Florida, his brother, Richard(Joyce) Ames of Virginia, his daughters-in-law, Sharon Ames of Arkport, Teresa Hoyt of Perkinsville, and Marilyn Bridge of Dansville, 11 Grandchildren, Carmen(Bridge)Vedger, Aaron Bridge, Jody(Ames) & Greg Hall, Brandon & Mabel Ames, Kristie Ames, Matt & Nicole Bridge, Jared & Becky Bridge, Laura Bridge, Hannah, Taylor & Zackery Ames, 7 great grandchildren, Vanessa & Madelyn Vedger, Haley & Allison Bridge, Quinten & Sydney Hall, and Jaylynn Bridge.

The family will be present to receive friends from 1-4 PM Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell where a funeral services will follow at 4:00 PM, Rev. Donald Maynard officiating. Burial was in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.
