Hugh J. Acker, 86, of 451 Whitney Valley Heights, passed awayTuesday (April 15, 2008)at St. James Hospital.
Born in Hartsville, June 10, 1921, the son of FrancisM Jr. and Edna King Acker , he had resided in Hornell and Almond, most of hislife. Hugh was a member of the Hillside Baptist Church.During his lifetime Hugh built 3 cottages on Conesus Lakewhere his family maintained a summer home until 1982. Along with his full-timeemployment Hugh also worked part time at many area service stations. After hisretirement from Foster-Wheeler, Hugh joined his son in business working as adelivery man for the Stationary Center, in Hornell. Uponthe closing of the family business, Hugh obtained part-time employment as a Green Thumb worker for the NYSDOT officebuilding in Hornell. Hugh ended his employment career in 2006 at the age of 85.
Hugh had a friendly, outgoing personality. His love ofpeople and conversation will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his wife Velma Foreman Acker inDecember 2007, 3 sisters Marilyn Wyant,Eleanor Acker, and Lois Nickerbocker, and his brother Lawrence "Bill" Acker.
He is survived by one son: Gary (Phyllis) Acker of Almond, 3granddaughters Amanda Acker of Virginia, Elizabeth Acker of Almond and JenniferAcker of Almond
The family will be present 4-7pm Friday, at the Bender - Brown & Powers FuneralHome,
354 Canisteo St,Hornell, where funeral services will be held at the conclusion of calling hoursat 7:00 PM, with PastorRobert Bennett, and Pastor Craig Brittingham officiating. Burial will be in Hornell Rural Cemetery.
