Howard D. Ellis, 89, formerly of Canisteo, passed awayTuesday (January 1, 2008)at St. James Hospital.
Born in the Town Of Almond, September 10, 1918, the son of Deo and Jennie Wheeler Ellis, he had resided in Hornell and Canisteoall his life. He was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of1937, and had served his country as a member of the United States Navy form1944-1946. He had been employed at theformer Erie Railroad for 16 years before becoming the superintendent of groundsat the Hornell Hope and Rural Cemetery, retiring in1983.
He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, RaymondEllis.
He is survived by his wife, his partner and his best friend, V. Luvae Norton Ellis whom he married August 31, 1940, twodaughters: Dorothy (Neil) Schutrum of Elmira and Jeanne (John)Hyland of Andover, one sister, Jean Vockovicof Alfred Station, 5 grandchildren, Greg and Carolyn Schutrum,Julie and Jeff Bridge, Kristian and Nita Schutrum, Jody and Billy Niedermayer,Johnny and Jessica Hyland, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephewsand cousins who will remember him for his love of his family.

354 Canisteo St, Hornell where funeralservices will be held following calling hours at 1:00 PM. Rev. Brian Diffenbacher will officiate. Burial with military honors will followin Hillside Cemetery, Canisteo, NY.
